This campaign will not use the normal method of progression by tracking individual XP. We will be using a hybrid progression where the GM will notify you when you have gained a new level based on his tally of the group’s overall advancement; based on adventuring successes/failures, roleplaying, and overall exploration.
My desires for doing this are so that players do not get into the rut of XP farming and thinking they need to kill everything in order to get XP for it. It also ensures a nice even pace of progression for everyone (fair or not). I can also allow for side adventures or skipping sections without worry that the PCs are gaining or losing too much XP. This should also help promote roleplay opportunities as you change focus from killing enemies for the XP.
I have set up an incentives program so that you can still get tangible and regular rewards for your actions.
